Show HEROIC TRAINMEN PREVENT DISASTER Salmon City, Ida., July 1. The heroic he-roic and tlmoly action of the Gllmore and Pittsburg train crew on the occasion oc-casion of the burning of tho Oregon Short Line depot at Armstcad last Friday probably saved much loss of life and property. On the trade near the Short Line depot were a car of dynamite, a car of gasoline and a car containing a large quantity of giant caps. When tho fire ln the O. S. L. depot was discovered shortly after midnight the G. & P. train crow was whistled out of bed by the engine which that company keepB in the Armstcad yards constantly fired. The crew promptly ran in, hooked onto the cars of explosives and drew them to places of safety, but was unable to get tho car of gasoline, which was destroyed. de-stroyed. Many of the townspeople who knew of the presence of the cars of explosives had taken to the hills. The loss caused by the fire is said to reach 75,000. This includes the building, a large quantity of baggage, some mall and express, the car of gasoline, and the household and personal per-sonal belongings of the agent and his wife. A lighted lamp within the building build-ing is believed to have been the cause of tho fire. |
