Show BAMBERGER TRACK IS FLOODED A phenomonal fall of rain, amounting amount-ing practically to a cloudburst, occurred oc-curred in the vicinity of Farmhitjton yesterday evening, causing considerable consider-able damage to canal and faimlng property and so flooding the tracks of the Bamberger line that the management man-agement was obliged to annul t.vo trains between Ogden and Salt Lake. The first storm came aoout suven o'clock, the water rising In the Haight Irrigation canal until the banks were overflowed, flooding the surrounding territory to a considerable consider-able depth and washing great quantities quan-tities of silt ,rock and treo fragments frag-ments across the line of the Bamberger Bam-berger railroad. Tho eight o'clock train from Ogden passed the danger point early In the progress of the storm and reached Salt Lake on time. Tho one following follow-ing an hour later, however, encountered encoun-tered tho flood at its height and, despite the efforts of several extra crews of laborers, was forced to abandon aban-don Its schedule. At 11.30 a second storm occurred, equal almost to tho first In its destructive) de-structive) js, and It Is reported that a number of families living In the northern portion of Farmlngton were compelled to leave their homes for blgher ground until the flood subsided. subsid-ed. It is said that the farm of S. SJoblom in North Farmlngton was particularly menaced by tho water which overflowed the irrigation canal near by, the torrent carrying away some of the outbuildings and washing wash-ing away the canal embankment for a' distance of 100 feet or more. This occurred at one o'clock this morning, shortly before the flood began to subside. Tho tracks were cleaied at an early hour this morning, allowing a resumption resump-tion of traffic In both directions. The trainmen did not learn, however, the full extent of the damage, the farmers farm-ers In the Inundated district being busy 'with rounding up their stock, which they had turned loose at the approach of the flood. no |
