Harry Baker, ,the hotel clerk who rented a room to the mysterious John Smith, charged by a coroner's jury with being be-ing tho slayer of the Showman family, failed today to identify John Smither-man, Smither-man, of Junction City, Kan., as Smith. Smitherman is 111, due, he says, to a prolonged period of heavy di Inking during which he happened to wander Into Ellsworth and get himself involved in-volved in the .murder case, and he is willing to remain In jail until he is hotter able to travel. He may be detained several days. The suspect delated at Newkirk, Okln., was ordered released today. James Roardon, a former sheriff, who once arrested Charles Marzyek, said the prisoner was not the desired man. |
