Show OGDEN RAPID TO BUILD THEROAD An enthusiastic meeting of citizens was held at Brlgham City Inst evening even-ing at which representatives of the Oregon Short Line company and the Ogden Rapid Transit company woro given u hearing regarding tho proposed pro-posed building of a car line along Forrest avenue, leading from tho Oregon Ore-gon Short Line depot to the terminal of the interurban car line of the Ogden Og-den Rapid Transit company at the intersection of Forrest avenue and the main street of tho city. The Ogden company already has a franchise over the street In quostion and the Oregon Short Lino company is seeking one. The question with tho city council of tho Peach city and tho taxpayers has been, and now is, w bother It would bo advisable to grant a second right-of-way over the street, tho argument being advanced that, if both companies should build tho thoroughfare would bo so occupied oc-cupied with railroad tracks that it would bo of little service for the ordinary or-dinary traffic of the city. Officers of tho Ogden Rapid Transit Tran-sit company have stated that If tho railroad company should be granted a franchise over the street, they would not extend their car line to tho railroad rail-road depoL This would mean that the only connection tho city would have with the interurban lino to Ogden Og-den and Salt Lake would be nt the present termination of the road, which would materially inconvenience a great many of the residents of Brlgham Brlg-ham City. Most of tho people appear to be In favor of having- only one railroad track on Forrest avenue and It Is said that If the Rapid Transit people peo-ple would extend their track to tho railroad depot on that street at an early date, thero would be no necessity neces-sity for the grunting of a franchise to tho Oregon Short Line people. Tho action of the mass meeting last night waB to defer the furthor consideration of the Oregon Short Line application for a franchise 30 days, in tho meantime the Ogden company com-pany to stato positively what It will do. Vlco President Browning was nt the meeting, as was also Superintendent Bailey, and they havo a thorough un dcrstanding of the Brlgham City situation situ-ation Mr. Browning stite-l this viorn-lng viorn-lng that he would recommend at the next meeting of the board of directors direct-ors of the Rapid Transit company that the Interurban lino be oxlnded ovor Forrest avenue to tho O. S. L. depot at tho earliest possible mo-nent. mo-nent. "We havo some material on hand and can get moro in a short time," said Mr. Browning, "and as soon as the ground thaws so we can do tho Tork, which likely will be within 30 days, we can begin tho building. Thoro is no question now, so far as I can see, that the extension will be made Immediately." |
