Hundreds Hun-dreds of people enlisted In the -"For Utah" army last eeniug after seeing tho multitude of articles, and principally princi-pally foodstuffs, which are manufactured manufac-tured right here at home. The exhibition opened with a rush last evening and everything has surpassed sur-passed the expectations of those interested. in-terested. The manufacturers have displayed such a marked Interest in the show that there is not sufficient space to accommodate tho exhibits and many were crowded out entirely. This condition makes it almost impossible im-possible to cope with the crowds, the demonstrators and attendants at the exhibits being almost overwhelmed by the hundreds of sightseers. Governor Coming Today. Even greater crowds are expected this afternoon and evening. Those in charge of the show are at a loss to know how they will handle the crowds this evening after tho Ogden delegation has been augmented' by a hundred or more from Salt Lake City, including Governor William Spry and his entire staff Mrs. Olive Havens, president of tho U'ah Homo Industry association, 1b delighted with tho interest shown by the Ogden people In the state movement move-ment for the uplift of the home manufactured man-ufactured article. She is confident that a great branch of tho state organization or-ganization will be organized horo and several hundred displayed their willingness will-ingness to become members last evening even-ing by signing a card bearing the above pledge. The entire lower floor of the spacious spa-cious storeroom, with the exception of narrow aisles on each side. Mayor Opens the Show. The "For Utah" pure food show was officially opened by Mayor William Will-iam Glasmann with a rousing speech in which he omphasizod tho necessity of buying home products. He told of encountering an eastern traveling salesman at Pocalello recently and in response to a Pocatello merchant's statement that he purchased his goods In Ogdcn, the salesman said, "Why, these people down there don't buy i their own goods. Look at these orders for eastern goods; why should you buy Utah goods, then?" It was such facts as these, argued the mayor, that injured home production produc-tion (and thereby homo industry. He mentioned a number of Utah products prod-ucts and cited the foreign manufactured manufac-tured substitute which was inferior in every way; he told of the enne and beet sugar and tho Utah early Jum' peas, pure food pork and boans and various other products. "If you peo pie of Ogden would purchase tho homo product whenever you can do so," said the mayur in conclusion, "tho capacity of the Ogden factories would be doubled in CO days." Other Speakors. Following Mayor Glasmann, J. C. Carver, chairman of the state pure food commission, and Mrs Olive Havens, Ha-vens, president of the Utah association associa-tion made brief talks. Mr. Carver praised the Ogden manufacturers for the Interest shown nnd also for the high grade of thoir products, while Mrs. Havens urged all the women fo become members of tho "For Utah" club of homo industry boostora. Tho state president is a very energetic woman with a pleasing personality and her efforts in this movement aro untiring. . Other pleasing features of the evening's even-ing's program were solos by Miss Simpson, Miss Brown and N. 0. Os-den. Os-den. Packing Company's Exhibit. It would require many columns to do Justico to tho excellent exhibits ut tho food show, but a hurried trip through the building will give a general gen-eral Idea of the magnitude and success suc-cess of tho display. The right window win-dow nnd fst space nt the right side of the rvftm has been nssigned to tho Ogdou Packing and Provision company. com-pany. This is probably the most complete com-plete exhibit of tho entire show. The main feature of the window display is tho carcass of a sheep, handsomely handsome-ly dressed and suspended from a revolving re-volving hook in the center of the window. win-dow. Back of tills are four full sides of beef, also prettily decorated with colored paper and electric lights. The floor of the window Is filled with smaller articles from tho meat storeroom store-room nnd among these aro displayed tho medals and diplomas won by the company at tho state fair and other exhibits. Much spaco has been alloted to tho "WeHtern Bottling company and the Standard Bottling company and both concerns have a very elnborate exhibit exhib-it of their goods.
