Perkes Killed in France' One Cache county servicemen was reported killed and another wounded in action in the battle for France during the past few days. They are: Private First Class Theo T. Perkes, 31, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Perkes, Hyde Park, killed in action July 31 while serving with an infantry unit in France. Private First Class Lloyd P. Shipley 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Shipley, Paradise, wounded wound-ed seriously July 31 in France. Private Perkes' parents received word Thursday at 9:30 p. m. that their son had been killed. The war department telegram said a letter would follow. He was born July 10, 1913 in Hyde Park, a son of Thomas W. and Rhoda Jorgensen Perkes. He was educated in Hyde Park public pub-lic schools and attended the North Cache high school at Rich-, Rich-, mond. Before entering the service July 4, 1942, he had lived in California for a short time. He trained first at Camp Carson, Colo., then went on maneuvers for three months at Shreveport, La. Later he was assigned to a light artillery unit in California and was sent overseas early in July, 1944. He began combat duty one week later. Private Perkes was home on his furlough last January. He has two brothers also in the service, Private Arthur Perkes, who has been overseas 16 months and now is serving in Italy and Seaman Second Class Rolan Perkes, stationed at Oakland, Cal. Survivors, besides his parents, include the two brothers in the service, and 10 other brothers and sisters: Asa and Gaylen Perkes, Blackfoot, Idaho; Eldon Perkes, Moreland, Idaho; Mrs. Relda Smith, Mrs. Vera Jensen, Mrs. Elaine Perkins and Mrs. Nell Ree Anderson, An-derson, Logan; Mrs. Kate Crockett, Crock-ett, Udell and Doral Perkes, Hyde Park. Private Shipley his1 been in ser-vice ser-vice two and one-half years and overseas with an infantry unit for two months. He trained at Camp Walter, Texas; Long Beach, Calif.; San Luis Obispo, Cal., and later in Alabama, Tennessee and North' Carolina. |
