Lyman Ly-man H. Rich, extension dairyman cf the Utah State Agricultural Col-! Col-! iege. reports. I Haroid H. Bennett of Salt Lake county, the Ferrin Dairy Farm at Ordrn, Dr. C. J. Daines of North Logan and the 4-H club of Tooele have added purebred Guernsey : cows to their herds in recent months. Herd sires have been purchased ' by Joseph Chadwick and John ! Wilson of Weber county, J. B. Erickson and E. L. Madsen of Salt Lake county, John J. Barnard, Bar-nard, Heber City, and Stewart Farm and the Jensen Brothers Farm in Summit county, Leland Smith of Woods Cross, Earl Felt of Weber county, and the Tooele 4-H club. C. A. Smith, western representative of the American Guernsey Association helped select the cattle. The Guernseys exhibited at the Ogden Livestock show and the U-tah U-tah S.ate Fair were of high quality, qual-ity, Mr. Rich states, and the dairy herds throughout the state i are showing improvement. Professor J. C. Knott of Washington Wash-ington State college speaking before be-fore the Guernsey breeders of U-tah U-tah recently stressed the importance import-ance or adquate feed preparation with emphasis upon pastures, the need of developing a breeding program, pro-gram, keeping herds free from disease, correct management of herds and reliability and honesty of the breeds when dealing with others. To these suggestions, Mr. Rich adds the importance of vision for the future by dairymen and the . training of the youth in dairy herd management. |
