Truman Tru-man Hillyard of Smithfield, has been missing in action over Germany Ger-many since January 11, the war department has informed his parents. The report that Sergeant Hillyard Hill-yard was missing "came as no surprise" to his father, who said he marked the date, January 11, on the calendar after reading press reports that 64 allied planes were missing over Germany on that day. ' "I had a premonition that Noel was in that raid and that he was among those missing," Mr. Hillyard Hill-yard declared. A member of a .bombing crew based in England, Sergeant Hillyard Hill-yard and been oveseas since November, No-vember, 1943 and had participated in several bombing missions over Germany. , A native of Smithfield, where he was born July 1, 1922, Sergeant Hillyard was graduated from the ! North Cache high school and seminary. He enlisted in the army air corps in October, 1942. He first trained as an airplane mechanic at Keesler Field, Miss., but after graduation , there he trained as a gunner at Las Vegas, Nevada. He finished training with a B-17 bombing crew at Dalhart, Texas and left for overseas duty November 1, 1943. In a recent letter to his parents he wrote that he had visited London Lon-don and had been invited to visit Buckingham palace. |
