Show Hammond Urges Early Auto Inspection V. D. Hammond, chairman of the State Road Commission, today urged motorists to have their cars inspected early so the inspectors can take plenty of time to do a thorough inspection job on the cars, as this is not always possible possi-ble during the last rush days of the inspection period. "Motorists should look at the inspection requirement as a personal per-sonal protection and not as a burden bur-den that is imposed upon them by the state," said Mr. Hammond. "The aim of the inspection law is to save lives and prevent damage dam-age to persons and to property. If every motorist would keep his car in first class mechanical con. dition, there would be no necessity neces-sity for a state inspection law," continued Mr. Hammond. "A majority ma-jority of motorists realize the necessity ne-cessity of keeping automobiles in first class condition and play safe in the matter for the sake of themselves and their families, as well as for the safety of other motorists. The necessity for the requirement is brought about because be-cause a minority of motorists let their cars become unsafe mechanically me-chanically and tire public has to pay for the ommission and the carelessness of the few." Mr. Hammond pointed out that those states with the most rigid inspection requirements are the states with the lowest percentage of highway accidents. Mr. Hammond Ham-mond also commended the newspapers news-papers for the fine cooperation they have given the public and state oficials in their constant urge for safety on the highways, saying that without this newspaper cooperation, it would not be possible pos-sible to educate the public in matters of safety and responsibility responsibil-ity in the operation of motor cars. |
