Show Grasshoppers are Moving into Cache Valley Recent hatches of grasshoppers have threatened serious crop injury in Cache valley, Dr. G. P. Knowl-ton, Knowl-ton, state control leader, indicated Monday, pointing out that the-'hoppers the-'hoppers are beginning to move into the cultivated crops all over the state with the rapid drying of the range forage. Through the use of mechanical bait spreaders in several Utah counties grasshopper control efficiency ef-ficiency has increased considerably during the past several weeks, said the state leader. Eight truck-drawn mechanical spreaders, each of which spreads as much as can 25 men, were assigned to counties of the state in the spring and have cut down the anticipated loss by the pest considerably, Dr. Knowl-ton Knowl-ton explained. Dr. Knowlton said that additional addition-al bait materials are being requested re-quested in order to rid of late hatching "hoppers. Prompt baiting is urged to avert injury of cultivated culti-vated crops with the shift of the pest from the range to the crop lands. |
