'This opinion is supported by Carl Frischknecht, extension poultry-man, poultry-man, who believes that vacant coops usually indicate that the owners are not "poultry minded" .and probably will not succeed even in the face of high prices for eggs and poultry. The committee report points out .that only 60 percent of the farmers farm-ers of the state raise chickens for either meat or egg purposes. The report urges people generally to eat necessary amounts of eggs and poultry products for a balanced diet. The report further advises poultrymen of the state to in- crease the number of top grade eggs, as only 45 percent of the eggs now marketed fall into this class while a minimum of 70 per cent of all eggs should rate tops. This increase In egg standards can be brought about by proper sanitary practices, by gathering eggs often, and by feeding better rations. The need for more poultry projects pro-jects by 4-H and FFA clubs in aiding Utah to reach increased production is also emphasized. |
