Show New Utah AAA j Handbook Will j Assist Farmers Soil that has been conserved and built up through the widespread use of soil-building practices is providing America with a- storehouse store-house of potential production, ready to be converted into abundant abun-dant supplies of food and fiber as they are needed. Thus the importance of soil is pointed out in the new "Uuh AAA Farm Program Handbook" which will be ready for distribution to farmers and ranchers of the state about November 1, according, to A. Golden Kilburn, executive assistant of the state AAA. He said that in spite of all this campaign work to increase the production pro-duction of some farm commodities for defense, the emplrasis on soil conservation is not being lessened. "We are not going to make the mistakes we did in the last world war the plowing up of 30 million acres of grasslands and farmers everywhere vtfll be urged to carry out soil-building practices so that their farms can keep on producing produc-ing food and fiber," he declared. Payments will be made for staying stay-ing within crop allotments and having the required percentage of cropland In soil-conserving uses, and for performing approved soil-building soil-building practices. The agricultural conservation and range conservation phases of the program have been combined and the term "farm" will be used synonymously with the term "ranch," under the 1942 program. Brief descriptions of each soil-building soil-building practice approved for 1942 axe given in the handbook along with the amount of payment for carrying out the practice. |
