Our present members of our city government should be commended for their progressive achievements. For the purpose of continuing a policy of progression, economy and good government in all public pub-lic acairs with political organization organiza-tion equally divided as possible, we the people of Smithfield with organized officers, pledge our-. our-. selves and candidates to foster and perpetuate a progressive form of government. 1. We stand for a continuation of strict economy to live wiihin our budget, and we pledge our-.selves our-.selves sincerely to keep our city tax levy at a minimum. We believe that it is our duty to contact agencies such as the county commission, and the state road commission for road construction construc-tion and we pledge ourselves to continue our efforts to imporve loads internally. We especially pledge ourselves to do all within our power to have our share of the automobile license tax money continue to come from the State to us, so that we may continue tlfe road oiling projects in our community until it extends to very corner of our city. 4. We stand for the perpetual uplceep oh our city streets and the widening of all bridges and culverts at points where widening widen-ing is needed. We promise to make all possible- bridge and culvert repairs as far as a reasonable road budget will permit. We pledge ourselves to continue to try and get WPA help in the carrying on of these projects so as to help take care of the needs of the unemployed and to cut our cost of improvements to the minimum. min-imum. 5. We stand for the maintenance mainten-ance and continual repair and improvment of our water system. We believe in the continuation continu-ation of placing new fire plugs for fire protection whereever it is justifiable to meet the needs of the citizens. 7. ' We stand for and encourage the development of new ventures in the retail and manufacturing business in Smithfield, by appointing ap-pointing committees when needed need-ed to contact capitalists who wish to develop new business enterprises enter-prises in our city. 8. We pledge our efforts to -continue the support of our civic improvement program, to continue contin-ue to foster a splendid recreational Program on our community soft ball park. 9. Wa stand for the continuation of our present curb and gutter projects and lawn sprinkling improvements. im-provements. We also stand for the replacing and fostering of more adaptable varieties of shade trees on our city streets.
