Show . $ mm ofhhals SET m&MR 29 FOR DRAWING Conscription Officials Announce An-nounce Date for Drawing of Numbers in First Peace Time Conscription. WASHINGTON Monday, October Oc-tober 29, was set as the date for the drawing which will determine the order in which an estimated 17,000,000 draft registrants will be selected for selective military training, train-ing, officials of the conscription program announced last night. President Roosevelt will probably draw the first number from the famed gold "fishbowl" which was used in the World War draft in 1917. Numbers ranging from 1 to about 10,000, which represents the largest anticipated total number of registrants in any one local area in the country, will be enclosed en-closed in capsules and placed in the bowl for drawing. Draft officials stated that there will be only one drawing that all numbers will be pulled from the bowl beginning the night of the date fixed for the lottery. The task of drawing the 10,000 numbers is expected to take 16 to 20 hours. In an effort to facilitate arrangements ar-rangements for the lottery, selective selec-tive service headquarters urged, all possible speed by local draft boards in assigning and posting serial numbers of the men who registered register-ed last Wednesday. Classification will begin immediately immed-iately after the lottery is held. Men will be classified on the basis of answers given in question-aires question-aires that will be sent to them in the order in which their number num-ber is drawn. It has been revealed reveal-ed that 788,999 men will be selected select-ed from the continental United States from November 18 through June 15 of next year. |
