Certainly such great responsibility calls for quali-' ties of service that justify payment of salaries which at least will reimburse those receiving them to the extent that they will be able to meet their expenses whjle serving at the state capitol. And four dollars a day- is not sufficient to meet that expense. Remember to vote for Constitutional Amentment A NEEDED CHANGE AND NOW For years the rate of pay for members of the state legislature has stood at its present figure, a scale that is so far below the standard of remuneration anyone should receive on a basis of services rendered that it alone cries out its own injustice. From the standpoint of governmental operation this is an unhealthy condition, that which should long since have been remedied. A change of this situation is not only important at the present time, but it is necessary. . Legislative pay in most states runs much greater . than that which is paid in Utah, the compensation in this state, four dollars a day for a sixty-day period each two years, is far below that received in almost every state in the nation. The legislators of a state really serve in a capacity which is similar to the directors of a business organi- zation, they are responsible for expenditure of . the state's monies and its proper proportionment through channels which will bring to the commonwealth the best returns.
