Show FFA Award Goes To Benson Student Wayne Cardon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Cardon of Benson, was one of three -Utahns to win the coveted American farmer degree at the National Future Farmers of America convention held recently in Kansas City, Mo., and is the third member of the Cardon family to receive this honor, L. R. Humpherys, professor pro-fessor of agricultural education at Utah State Agricultural college, reported today. The new award winner, ' immediate im-mediate ' past secretary of the Utah FFA organization, was : one of four Utah delegates to the national na-tional convention'. His older brothers, broth-ers, Doyle, now serving with the U. S. navy and Kenneth, previously previ-ously have - received the same recognition. ..m-.. A honor student when he graduated grad-uated from North Cache high school in 1943 with an average . of 91.60, young Cardon has been . active in FFA leadership activities, activi-ties, public speaking, L. D. S. church work and farm cooperative coopera-tive activities. He was awarded a $100 Union Pacific scholarship to attend USAC. In addition to his school . activities, ac-tivities, he has carried on substantial sub-stantial agricultural projects on an ownership basis in dairy, swine, sugar beets and tomatoes. At the present time he has "a substantial sub-stantial investment in livestock and land from FFA project earnings," earn-ings," Professor Humpherys said. , Merrill Hallam, of Spanish Fork, past president of the state organization, was elected third vice president of the national FFA to represent the eleven states. Professor Humpherys reported. Other Utah delegates to the convention con-vention were R. J. Rickenbach of Richfield and Eugene Sanford of Delta, president of the state chapter. |
