Tropicalization, a scientific research project to protect pro-tect war communication equipment from deterioration in tropical climates, cli-mates, has been advanced at a rapid rate by the U. S. Signal Corps. Photo shows Wilfred F. Horner, biology department director in the Belmont Radio laboratories, studying study-ing methods of preventing fungus prowth in electronic devices manufactured manu-factured for South Parific warfare. The growth of hundreds of different dif-ferent types of fungi and bacteria collected from all over the world are studied here in connection with various materials used in electronic equipment. Tropicalization is only one of several sev-eral research developments undei way at the Belmont laboratories.
