Show A Ruction- I There was quite a cirens oa Main ; Istreet Tuesday night, and the paincipal pei formers bad a narrow escape form spending the night in jail. Two females were pronianadlng np and down the street, a frequent ocenrrnee, and were followed by a gang of young men.(?) The girls and boys were quarrelling and calling each other hard names. One yonng lady (?) permitted her angry passions pas-sions to rise so high that they were beyond be-yond her control, grasping a club she made for the crowd and struck one of the gentlemen (?) a crack on the sholder that made him howl. He picked up the club and threw it at the girl, striking her on the arm and inflicting a painful bruise. Then hard names and swear words flew thick and fast, the atmosphere atmos-phere changed from black to blue and it was decidedly hot in the neighbarnood. The young ladies (?) theu started for home crying and swearing on the way. The marshal, who was In the council chamber, heard the noise and went out to investigate. He overtook the gang at Tuttle's store. He at first decided to put the young man (?) (who by the way Is a teaoher in one of our Sabbath BChcols) in jail, but as the young lady was equally to blame he relented and allowed al-lowed to go, saying that if they were wanted he would come for thern. It is a shame that two young ladUs shonM go cut on the streets of an evening even-ing and try to get young men to follow them, and it Is still worse that a young man will be guilty cf following them, especially a Sunday school teacher. But pshaw I what are we saying? Young ladies do not walk the streets for the purpose of having young men follow them, and young men do not follow maidens who wink at them on pnrpoe to have them do so, . i |
