Show ph it S B this week I 1 have been running back and forth to the peter cooks and during one ot of my visits monday evening I 1 found that eva their daughter in law had presented them with an early christmas a beautiful TV set that will bring enjoyment to the cooks during the long winter months ahead with or without the TV set I 1 think the cooks are pretty lucky to have such a wonderful daugh ter in law and while I 1 am speaking of the cooks id like to send orchids to jennie hardy ashes been more than wonderful during mr cooks illness mr cook Is recovering so rapidly from his illness that it is almost miraculous ile he walks about the yard and Is gaining strength in the limbs that were paralyzed sunday afternoon he was pleasantly surprised with a beautiful bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums and red roses it was from the cascade roller canary clubs of seattle and spokane clubs where he has judged canaries and speaking of canaries our nephew mike was about the happiest kid in town saturday morning when mr and mrs cook presented him with a canary the first thing he did when he got home was to borrow a thermometer so that he could keep the bird at 65 degrees as mr cook told him that was the best temperature era cra ture then he started to telephone his friends and each time in trying to describe the bird he be stumbled over the word pedigreed that word alone made the bird something special the canary was a favorite ot of mr cooks and is a very good singer but as yet he gotten used to his new home and the lively parrish kids wednesday night we are going to chloi ado to spend thanksgiving with alberts family were taking 0 ir niece pat with us and it should be a great thrill for her for she has aas never ridden on a train As we were talking with prof quintus wilson in the lobby ot of the newhouse hotel saturday congressman william A dawson strolled by after a few words of 1 greeting prof wilson asked for an opportunity to talk with mr dawson explaining that he had just returned from japan on a fulbright assignment and that he was disturbed at the lack of propaganda fram the united states government regarding the money which we are pouring into foreign countries in the way of economic aid prof wilson said the people of japan do not know that the aid they are receiving Is coming from hardworking hard working citizens of the united states and he thinks it Is a big mistake ive heard this view before particularly ticul arly where it concerns europe but hearing it firsthand first hand as I 1 did saturday it makes me wish the senators would settle down to some important and constructive business instead of getting hot under their collars and fighting ing among themselves im not at all sure the united states can buy friends and I 1 think that if a little more money was appropriated for propaganda purposes to let the people of asia and europe know that a great many working hours in the united states are devoted to their welfare then maybe they would appreciate our efforts a little more and maybe too they would make a greater effort to get on their own feet tor for surely they must realize that we cannot and do not intend to support them forever the point prof wilson Is going to make to congressman dawson Is that the united states gov merriment Is underselling under selling itself and that means that you and I 1 and our efforts are being under sold |
