Show joseph E rees civic leader died on saturday morgan was shocked and grieved saturday S atul day afternoon when the news was made known that bishop jo JOSEPH E REES seph E rees had died at the family residence in round valley following a heart attack bishop rees was a prominent morgan county rancher and a leader in civic and church functions and was known for his happy tion among those with whom he associated socia ted at the last november election he be was nas elected a member of th the e state legislature for a two year term in the utah house of representatives just prior to his death he was busy preparing to leave for the opening session which was to take place monday joseph edmond rees was borri bom in coalville Co alville june 8 1883 a son of edmond and hannah chapel rees his parents came to utah with an ox team company and his grandmother was the first white woman to spend a night in coalville Co alville ile he was educated inthe in the coal ville schools later attending the former L D S university in salt lale lake city ile he married blanche thackeray june 6 1906 in the L D S temple and the couple made their home in Co coalville alville for 10 years they moved to devils slide where mr air rees operated a grocery business for three years later going to croydon and residing there 10 years in I 1 1933 they moved to morgan where he ha and his sons at the present time own and operate the large ranch on the north side of the union pacific railroad in round valley all his life mr rees has been active in public affairs he was past president of the lions club and held various offices in ia that organization ile he was a director in the utah poultry association and served two terms in the legislature and one term as reading clerk in the house to mention all his positions in the church would be to name almost every organization ile he served on a mission in the sout fiern states in 1902 to 1 I 1 was bishop and superintendent of croydon sunday school ward clerk high councilman and a member of the high priest quorum at the time of his death he was bishop of the north morgan ward lie ile worked zealously during the time of remodeling of the present c hapel chapel and was very proud of the a accomplishment made in that building surviving are his wife and the following sons and daughters joseph E son morgan george D 0 rees 1 bountiful richard G rees mi minneapolis apolis joseph doseph robert roes rees morgan mrs lavon carr ogden mrs helen berger los angeles mrs merle cao call salt lake city 17 grandchildren and the he following brothers and sisters charles william rees washington D C fred A rees salt lake city mrs nell crittendon boyts ville mrs may tree coalville Co alville and mrs ruth miller salt lake city funeral services w were ere conducted wednesday january 12 at pm in in the north morgan chapel under the direct direction io n of jack L heiner counselor to the late bishop rees lees prior to leaving for the chapel the rayer prayer in the home was off offered ered by fred red C rees of salt lake city the he invocation and benediction was given by john C davies of ogden and counselor robert miles musical numbers were furnished by ay iy the north morgan choir under the leadership of J L terry and accompanied by mrs eileen johnson and mrs sylvester heiner they sang three numbers softly and tenderly oil oh my father and till we meet again jolin john johnson was the soloist A solo in the garden was given by albert carrigan an and d a duet was rendered by mrs leone heiner and mrs air s emma smith speakers were patriarch G S heiner senator lon hopkin and president clarence D rich interment was in croydon cemetery with bis bishop hop mark thackeray dedicating the grave five members of the utah state legislature were in attendance re representing presenting the state |
