Show ECHO DAM construction NEARLY DONE construction work on the echo dam during the month of may according to the construction report of F F smith was largely confined to the placing of earth material in ahe the clay sand and gravel section of the dam rock till fill on the front and baek back of the dam and the completing of the concrete work on the spillway structure the contractor on this work em aloyed an average daily force of men and 18 head of stock throughout the month in addition to the large of mechanical equipment in use on the job during the month approximately cubic yards of material were placed in the dam and highway section bringing the tha dam to within 10 feet of its final elevation with a a total yardage to date in the clay sand and gravel portion of the dam of cubic yards placing of rock during the month was carried on on both the front and back ot of the dam and this see sec tion was brought to within 25 feet of the top elevation the spillway structure to provide for the passage of second feet of flood water for emergency use was completed during may all ail concrete work on this part of the job being finished at this time the work of placing the radial gates and hoists on the spillway structure was begun it is expected that during the month ol of june the hauling ol 01 0 rock to both sides ol of the dam will be carried on and that possibly the remaining portion of the earth section will be brought to its final ele the work of placing the radial ga gates tes in the spillway structure will be carried on and the erection ot of the tha gate control house will be started together with preparatory work for the placing of the emergency gates gat es and needle valves for controlling the outflow from the reservoir during the month the installation of the temporary gates to provide provida for the storage of acre feet ot of water was completed and on oil may 18 the storage of water was begun the desired storage of acre feet was reached early in june work on th clearing of the reservoir site will be resumed early in june by the heiselt Heisel fc construction company and the remaining timber and brush will be piled and burned on the weber provo diversion canal the forces of S H newell co averaging 39 men daily worked the entire month on the excavation of the deep cut at the lower end of the canal and on the excavation for structures and canal crossings along the line of the canal moving about cubic yards ot of material in ti this As work two dras drao 1 lines will be used on this work i june and the work will be pushed forward as rapidly as possible placing of canal crossings was also started in may |
