Non Nielson Given Yule Award on Dec 23 Mrs LaRue Nielson who received the Ephraim Yule Candle Dec 23 is perhaps best known for her activities as co-chairman co of the Ephraim Beautification n Committee for the many sumptuous banquets she has served as a florist for her activities in the Democratic Party for her management of Dairy Queen and for other business activities But a chief reason for her being chosen for the Yule Candle honor is probably an activity of which the general public is little aware acts of Christian charity like taking taking taking tak tak- ing delicious cooked meals to homes where there is sickness sorrow or dire need Mrs Nielson is a native of Mayfield where she was born to John and Ella Anderson And it was there sh she got an early start in business business bus bug iness activities as a clerk in ina ina a a. a grocery store at the age of 12 and continuing for several years She is a graduate of Manti High School and Snow Col Col- lege She was married to Vertis Vertis Ver Ver- Nielson May 4 1934 She has operated LaRue's Floral for 14 years and during part of that time she and her husband also operated an appliance appliance appliance ap ap- ap- ap business She managed managed managed man man- aged the Ephraim Dairy Queen for eight years and the one oneat oneat oneat at Manti ManU for part of that time She has prepared scores of banquets for weddings political political political cal gatherings socials and other occasions Possibly the largest of these was one sponsored by the Sanpete County Democratic Committee as a fund raising aff affair lr for fora a Snow College Student Student Student Stu Stu- dent Center There were more than 90 items on the menu menu and she did all all' the cooking It netted 1035 toward the Student Center Mrs Nielson was elected vice chairman of the Sanpete County Democratic Committee Commit Commit- tee in 1934 and held that office of fice flee under four different chairmen chair men then was elected chairman chair chair- chairman man in 1963 the only woman in the state to hold such a position She was her party's choice as state legislator from Sanpete but was unsuccessful at the last election As county cna chairman she is also a member member member mem mem- ber of the Democratic State Central Committee She has been serving as a member of the State Small Business Advisory Council to which position she was appointed appointed appointed ap ap- ap- ap pointed by bythe the late President John F.
