Show C Commissioners Ponder A A State large laree menu of Sanpete Library Proposal A A large laree menu of Sanpete group P citizenry along with the state stat library director met with the th Sanpete County Commissioners Commission Commission- ers era at the Tuesday session December 1st The object o othe oi of the group was to present the state library's plan to sent send the bookmobile into Sanpete County The plan was presented present present- ed to the commissioners also at their October session m Heading the list was Wells Well Thomson of Ephraim who acted as chairman of the group State Library director Russell L. L Davis of Bountiful was in attendance to present the Ithe states state's views Local citizens in attendance were Jack Burr South Sanpete Sanpete Sanpete San San- pete School Superintendent William C. C Curtis secretary of the North Sanpete School District Phyllis Greener Gunnison Betty Watts Gunnison Gun Gun- nison raison Ivan Cox Fairview representing the Fairview Lions Club and Cli Clifford ford H H. Sondrup Ephraim postmaster representing the Ephraim Lions Club Mr Thomson talked about the October meeting at which time Mr Davis made the Ithe first bookmobile proposal made on October to the Commissioners He wondered if perhaps there was some misunderstanding misunderstanding misunderstanding mis mis- understanding concerning anticipated anticipated an cost of operation The time was then turned t to Mr Davis who explained that the first years year's cost of operation operation operation opera opera- tion would be borne by the State Library Fund Then if the program is successful the county would be responsible to pay costs of the truck driver etc But the state he said would maintain the library li library li- li indexing etc Mr Davis also pointed out that the maximum that could be collected from Sanpete would be an additional one- one mill tax levy or But Buthe Buthe Buthe he said that he did not anticipate anticipate anticipate anti anti- that the Sanpete service service service ice would require quite half halfa a service unit therefore he estimated cost at around or not more than the revenue derived from one hall of one mill The actual amount he pointed point point- ed out would be influenced a great deal if other counties such as Millard Mallard and Sevier could be induced to adopt the program County Commission chairman chairman chairman chair chair- man Keith A. A Hansen said he felt that the free year one offer offer offer of of- fer was appreciated but that the board felt it should not go blindly into the program without being sure it would finance finance finance fi fi- fi- fi be possible and feasible to nance the program He also noted that the commissioners had ad been in contact with the commissioners of Millard and Sevier Counties but as yet definite had received nothing Mr Mr- Hansen also informed the group that the program could not be adopted until something more definite could be set up as to approximate cost and until the board had more time to fully consider it and feel the pulse of the people people peo pee pie on the matter Roger Johnson of Ephraim m met with the commission to protest the county road department de- de d de department selling crushed gravel to private citizens The commission replied to not Mr Johnson that it was the intention of the county to run competition to private industry but that this program is carried on in almost every county and also by the state said The idea behind it they was to bring needed much who would gravel to persons otherwise find it impossible to obtain the gravel and the equipment for necessary driveway driveway driveway drive drive- way and yard surfacing else- else where A plan was proposed which if details could be worked out would make service available avail avail- available able only in areas where Mr Johnson could not feasibly make service available No action action action ac ac- ac- ac tion was taken on this matter however A motion was made by Commissioner Clifford Blackham Blackham Blackham Black- Black ham with Commissioner Voorhees Voorhees Voorhees hees offering a second that thata a notice of budget hearing be place in all four Sanpete County newspapers The motion motion motion mo mo- mo- mo tion passed The hearing is scheduled for December 21 |
