Show J I Fire D Damages Paul Keeler Home FIRE DEPARTMENT PRAISED A fire of undetermined origin thought to have been for about two hours I before discovery discovery discovery dis dis- dis- dis covery did extensive damage to the Paul Keeler home last Saturday Saturday Satur Satur- day forenoon The Keeler's daughter daugh daugh- ter told that she thought she could smell smoke when she arrived home from an nn errand and started the investigation by her mother After checking the barn Mrs Keeler Keeler Keeler Kee Kee- ler sighted a n small blaze on the roof of the house and sent in the alarm When she went outside again there was smoke pouring from the whole roof on the westside westside west westside side of the the- house The City fire department arrived promptly and brought th the fire Under under under un un- der control in a n short time Members Mem Mem- Members bers of the department estimated that the fire had been burning for about two hours when they saw the amount of wood burned between the roof and ceiling In I investigating the origin of the fire the chimney flue was found to tobe tobe tobe be in good condition and it is believed that the fire started from froma fromn a n defective wire or from sparks from the eo u Y One of the four upstairs rooms in the house was destroyed and another was partially destroyed A complete new roof loof will be necessary necessary necessary sary on the west end of the house Mr and Mrs Keeler have ex ex- ex pressed mu much h praise for the local volunteer fire fighters in their action and for the great grent care taken taken tak talc en to save furniture bedding etc so that none of the content was damaged They also tell that the department us used H VP very verv little ta j er erand and that the members took care to lo keep water from leaking into the main floor of their home Mr and Mrs Keeler are aie also very thankful as they think of damage that might have been done if the fire had gotten a better start or 01 if it had nad started at nt night while their children were asleep Fire Chief Ed Carpenter reported report report- ed there was apparently y some trouble trouble trou trou- ble in getting a n call through when the fire was discovered and asks that persons clear the line when a fire call is being sent sent in |
