tiny tots who come to see Santa From observing the behavior of the visitors to Santas Santa's knee I have decided that in a world full tulI of strife and turmoil it Is refreshing to see the innocent ones either grinning from ear to ear or looking hesitantly into the face of Saint Nick and then emitting a shrill burst of tears The eager members of the junior set clamor to see Santa They cling to his red suit and follow him everywhere he goes You just cant can't beat the fringe benefits They say that God made mademan mademan mademan man first because he didn't want any suggestions One Orte of ManU had just downed the Richfield Wildcats Wildcats Wild Wild- cats I was spending Sunday aft afternoon afternoon afternoon aft aft- in the shop trying to finish up some odds and ends when Wilbur Wllbur Braithwaite came in with a news article At the time Ume I had three people from Richfield In the shop They asked asked asked ask ask- ed who he was when Wilbur had left and I stated that he was the ManU Mantl High basketball coach I told them how fortunate we were in this area to have three good men at the helm of the athletic programs I told them how I had often heard the boys of the school down through the years have nothing but praise for Coaches Braithwaite and Goodwin The compliments of often often often of- of ten came from some of the so-called so rough boys of the student body I told them that I had never heard any tory statements from the boys who really after alter all know them the best They all agreed that we were very fortunate to have such men here The girl who wore townspeople in the area about the decline in enrollment at atthe atthe atthe the college during the fall ter while other colleges generally generally generally gen gen- showed a gain Many excuses have been put forth for this decline most of them leveled at the recreational activities and opportunities Inthe in inthe inthe the area and this is keeping students away Personally I dont don't know the thereal thereal thereal real reason but I suspect that this Isn't entirely right I have attended the University of Utah with all Its gala festivities and have seen the fellowship and courteous acts among the Snow College students and If I were a student again I wouldn't trade the advantages here for the crowded atmosphere of the larger areas In my opinion there Is certainly no academic drawbacks to attending a small school like Snow M My guess is that the trend will be reversed soon especially especially especially espe espe- if we get in and support the college at its activities so that the activity schedule can be enlarged Maybe we are just as much to blame for the slump as the college itself Sandy a secretary had to togo togo togo go into the hospital A friend from the office came to chocolate choco choco- late Bobbi's taking up the collections for birthdays and weddings and Im I'm working the crossword puzzles It is good any time of the year to have your faith in people restored and freshened and it seems particularly warm and significant at Christmastime But that is what happened to Hilmer HUmer Peterson and the Snow College maintenance staff last Sunday They had spent several hours during the week putting up lights and other Christmas decorations decorations decora decora- to add beauty and cheer to their corner of the campus They had decorated a large Christmas tree in front of the maintenance building Each light in just the right place had been carefully chosen so that the colors would give the best effect It was a work of art and they were proud of it The tree spread its glow and cheer to all who passed by And then Saturday night lights began to disappear It seems there were at least two forays made against the tree tree- about 30 globes disappeared the first time and more than that another time What had be been been n a thing of beauty stood misshapen and ugly Those who saw it were heartsick to think that someone would deliberately ruin a beautiful tree decorated in honor of the Christmas season Those who saw the assailants said It was children this children this made it seem a little worse And then something happened Sometime between late Saturday evening and morning mid-morning Sunday Sunday Sunday Sun Sun- day all of the more than 60 missing globes were returned What prompted the action is a 3 mystery mystery but but Hilmer HUmer said he thinks it must have been some alert parents who discovered the globes and had them promptly prompt prompt- ly Ay taken back to the tree Whoever it was that caused the runaway light globes to be returned Hilmer and members of his staff at Snow College are grateful as their bright CHRISTMAS 1969 The celebration of Christmas takes on added meaning each year It reminds us that material success success suc cess holds little value if we neglect the spiritual The strongest tie in human endeavor is that of the family and through this tie we project our good wishes and feelings to those around us Some of us express the holiday in material ways through an exchange of gifts others through an exchange of cards personal visits or telephone calls But they all focus on the main theme o of brotherly love It is the t time lne of year when good-fellowship good in ins 1 s spite Pite of some commercial overtones becomes contagious con con- when when friendly kind thoughts and actions action are directed toward our fellow fellowman It is a time when voices are heard in song and prayer prayer and and the t cares of the world melt away Let us try to extend th the quality of the Merry lerry Christmas of Christmas Day to the other days in the year year year-by by looking for positive ways to further the well-being well of all mankind symmetrical tree blinks its cheery Merry Christmas to all who pass by And Hilmer HUmer would like to add his special Thanks and warm Christmas greetings to those wise and thoughtful persons who saw that the globes were re re- re placed For them he wishes a Happy New Year It n is good to 11 live ve where people care Have you ever noticed that people who can take It or leave leaveU it U alone usually take it |
