july 10 1936 the temple bus left delta with eighty men and twenty women on board traveling on highway 26 that same evening the bus reached logan i and 1 I 1 the crowd went through the eve evenings evening ningA 4 sessions of the coffan logan temple on the morning of the alth they were on their way again going thru northern utah and southern idaho reaching west yellowstone on the evening of the 2nd day the of july was spent in yellowstone na lional park catching a glimpse of some of the wonderful things found there such as the paint faint pots the fire holes yellowstone lake the largest lake in the world at an equal altitude morning glory pool drag on a head and old faithful which J W according to estimates has been ie e 14 erupting bet een 40 and 50 thousand years bears were seen by the side of tl e road which added a particular ze t to the drive on oil monday the west yellowstone and the park was left behind and we were going up the beautiful gallatin canyon passing the flying dude ranch bozeman butte the wo id famous mining camp rich in history and the source of vast wealth we camped at missoula TIon tana for the night on Tue seday the alth we passed through glacier national park having one of the tin fin ost est mountain scenes in america not ed tor for ruggedness massiveness and awe inspiring grandeur in the high peaks of this cent park there are sixty glaciers and two hundred beautiful lakes the park has many varieties of flowers many trees and abound with wild animal life the bus climbed stead lly fly up lip many thousand feet going ov er logan pass traveling on to can ada before reaching the border and tor for some time after it seemed strange to see the very tops of the hills under cultivation ripe grain fields on both sides rendering an agreeable sight for comfort and cheer we reached cardston bardston Card ston at 8 30 in the evening and the sun was still shining here we remained two days doing temple work friday the we left cardston bardston Card ston going to raymond alberta and vis via cited the beautiful home of the late william meeks in whose yard we saw dozens of different varieties of flowers five penned elk and a very young antelope gracefully and dain lly tily browsing the rich herbage we passed through lethbridge and came to kingsgate Kings gate where we were made to pass an exi ex i amin atlon in order to enter our own beloved country however the examination was not hard and we all passed successfully and entered the state of washington passing through spokane land and davenport we reached seattle on the night of july monday july merrill boyack and irvin jeffery were the guides to show us seattle seattle seems to be built on seven hills and is a moat most city of green hills flowers 0 and costly and handsome residences j we crossed over elliot bay to bermester and saw battleships and cruls cruis ers era in dock some or of the crowd enjoyed an air plane ride and viewed the city from the air a most glor lous ious sight on tu tuesday edday the of july we visited the largest saw mill in the world at longview washington the mill saws one million feet of lumber dally daily and employs 1300 mien men the highest paid man in the mill is the saw sharpener who gets 16 a day his ilia tasks necessitate sharpen ing the saws every two hours traveling on we passed through vancouver and portland striking the columbia highway steep crags and colfs yawning chasms beautiful wa ter and the river meandering at th ohp bottom of the canyon make a most beautiful scenic highway t continued on page 5 t i i BUS TRIP continued from page 1 traveling up the blue mo fatalis to baker oregon on the old oregon trail we saw fertile valleys with grain fields fruit orchards ards sheep and cattle ranches beautiful timber ed hills and mining towns passing pas sins over dead man pass and reaching bal dal er city oregon in the evening we A e left baker thursday the stopping to drink from the fountain at the memorial on the old oregon trail we passed over the line in to idaho and tor for some hours traveled up the snake river ind saw ful pasture lands with grazing cattle vast fields of con cori beans beets and alfalfa which looked as it if they would yield abundantly we drove on thru boise and the country changed froni from a productive area to a vast tract of rolling sagebrush hills we camped in twin falls the night of the on the morning of the we left twin falls and passed over the line into utah after reaching cache valley we saw some of the finest farms and scenery that equalled equal led any we had seen on the journey we passed thru brigham city in ogden they were celebrating covered wagon atys we went on to salt lake city and leaving it on the we came to delta having been gone sixteen days and traveled miles the trip was enjoyed very much by all and each one will have many pleasant memories we talked with one or two about their experiences and what they saw said A E stephenson glacier na to be far up the distant moun bains and when on the gorgeous passes in the granite clinging like a fly to the road far up we could not envision that a few hours be fore we had been at that tiny s iver
