Show 11 SITUATION AT JIG SPRING 0 IK 1 CITY P w oak uty la Is still anxious over the water waier supply cut off by a cloudburst occurring on august 31 causing a flood lood which came down the south slopes of little canyon and south walker valker canyon a large body of 0 wa ter rocks and mud about anve yd feet high which raced down the oak ak creek water way and lasted cout three hours doing much dam age to trees roada roads improvements at the recreational grounds done by the last summer and throughout the canyon the following day it was discover ed that the big spring Is lo 10 caked just above the resort and tor for merly flowed lowed 3 sec see ft of water fur ill ni three three fourths of all water us ed tor for irrigating the fields of oak city had been suddenly stopped en this spring has never been known to be dry before and its cessation of low flow camped much apprehension to the people of oak city men were called to dig into the but have only been able to obtain a very small flow of water which would irrigate only about two furrows of land A committee con sifting of harold anderson earl harris jos anderson and byron ittelson It lelson went to salt lake city and met wet with governor blood and kotlier state officials and also the state F fc R A officials with the result that prof prot pack was sent by the state to investigate A promise of help was given by the FERA until a project could be organized prof pack expressed his belief that the spring had been held back by mud and silt and could be re stored to flow again but men have work continuously from oak city since the flood have lowered the spring level five feet dug a trench five feet wide and fifty feet long but still the flow ot of water has not increased since the first efforts the boys are locating in fie vie canyon to open the road and clean up some before the weather becomes too cold and it Is hoped some project or help will be given oak city immediately as the gardens and the fruit trees are already showing lack of water mayor T C lyman believes with more help at excavation the water may le ile brout it back but thinks the force ot of men and equipment avail able locally Is too small to accod immediate results the other springs in the canyon are intact some springs on the scip lo 10 side were cut off but are now lowing flowing ranger robins says it will take ten years to replace the canyon to its former beauty mrs mae 11 shipley correspondent |
