A Constantinople dispatch dis-patch to the London Daily Telegraph yesterday mentions the work done by The Christian Science Near East Relief Re-lief committee of Boston, which, it says, "has opened a soup kitchen so that miserable people are thus assured as-sured at least one warm meal per day.". A Christian Scientist in this connection con-nection writes to The Christian Science Sci-ence Monitor from Constantinople that Capt. J. H. Benson United States Christian Science naval chaplain chap-lain with funds sent by the Chrls-tianee Chrls-tianee board of directors is now relieving re-lieving "10,000 refugees, as Greece has no longer room for them, and it must be month before before they be settled in new homes." They are almost al-most exclusively women and children, chil-dren, he adds, since "the men have ali been kept by the Turks and sent Into the interior in what are practically slave gangs." A concert was given last week In Constantinople by one of the better-to-do groups of refugees as an expres sion of gratitude for what Christian Scientists have done for tjiem. The Greeks are also most appreciative appreci-ative andl have provided a large hall free of charge for Christian Science services which are conducted in the French and attended by a considerable consider-able polyglot congregation, including includ-ing Admiral Koltchak's flag lieutenant. |
