Show High School Items of the Week by Gladys Coleman We were so sure we would win that we walked on air, so the defeat de-feat struck us doubly hard. The gym was packed. One fourth of Miners-ville Miners-ville was represented and both the towns tried to out-yeil each other. After the usual bustling and practicing practic-ing was over and each player had been separately, wholly and fully admonished and advised as to "show 'em what you can do," referee Poul-son, Poul-son, county superintendent, made a few remarks and the game began. Minersville immediately grabbed the ball, bounced it to forward, and behold, the deed was done. Another basket out Minersville in a cheerful rallying mood and quite sobered Mi! ford. "Really, you know we can't let this happen again." But it happened anyway, and the score for the first Quarter was 6 to 5" Minersville. Back to center. Minersville again received the ball in spite of guarding guard-ing and made another basket. Four more followed in succession. Milford pitched a foul but so did Minersville and the score for the first half was still in the opponents favor, 15 to 6. We are sure the backers did their best and we really still can't find any suitable excuse for the team's playing. It was a poor example of their prowess. Even the practice games at the beginning of the season sea-son were far better in every respect guarding, pitching, team work and skill. But the boys did play fair and square. There were only five fouls called during the entire game, and three were technical fouls. However we should certainly dislike judging the Tiger's ability on the game. But the next quarter knocked us "galley west," figuratively speaking Minersville rapidly made 10 more points and Milford barely gained 5 This made tha core 25 to 11. But we still had a fair amount of hope and a grain of faith; for just the fact that one is down is no sign thai he is beaten. But the first part of the last quarter destroyed any lingering lin-gering hopes. By that time Minersville Miners-ville had trlppled the score, only a miracle could have turned defeat into in-to victory. This might have been accomplished ac-complished if the game had lasted longer, however. Frank Carter was put in in the last five minutes and Milford gained three baskets in suc-. suc-. cession. But we are indeed glad thai those last six points prevented a tripled score. The final outcome was .15 to 17 in favor of Minersville. But anyway we still have a chance and are certainly going to play it for full value. The game will be at Minersville, Friday, February 26. We are willing to bet the score will bo very close.
