Show Jl'DGE W. F. KNOX RESIGNS Wm. F. Knox, judge of the Fifth Judicial district, handed his resignation resig-nation to Governor Mubey yesterday, and Thomas H. Burton, of Nephr, was Immediately appointed to fill out the unexpired term. Judge Knox was elecfod at the November No-vember election in 1920 and has served two years and a half. He has made a very enviable recbrd and holds the confidence of the people o' the district. He was a strong candidate candi-date last fall for the nomination, which elected J. W. Cherry to the Supreme Su-preme Court bench. Judge Knox gives private business busi-ness affairs as the cause of his resignation, resig-nation, which became effective upon the appointment of his successor. During his tenure of office on the bench of the Fifth district court, beginning be-ginning January, 1921, Judge Knox has won an enviable reputation as a judge. During the last legislature it was related that he had not only cleared the calendar in his own dls-' trlct, in some Instances ending cases which had been pending for a decade-or decade-or more, but he also rendered like service In one or two other districts. In formally accepting the resignation, resigna-tion, Governor Mabey congratulated Judge Knox on the exceptional record rec-ord he had made on the bench, and expressed regret that circumstances were such that the jurist felt com pelled lo leave me ouice. Mr. Thomas Burton, the new judge. Is a man of mature years and large experience in the law. He was born In Nephi in 1875, was graduated from the B. Y. U. in 1910 and then attended school in Chicago, and was admitted to the bar in 1907. He has served as County Coun-ty attorney and county recorder of Juab county; also as city attorney of Nephi. He is director of the Fillmore Commercial Com-mercial and Savings Bank, also of the Dixie Bank of St. George, and is one of the large taxpayers of the district. dis-trict. He was a delegate to the las: Republican convention, where President Presi-dent Harding was nominated. His training and ability should guarantee him success as judge. |
