CONFIRMS PLAN FOR BIG SHOPS AT LOS ANGELES Confirmation of the report that the Union Pacific system, which recently re-cently bought the Salt Lake route, will shortly erect huge shops to care for the rolling stock of the railroad iu Los Angeles was received by local lo-cal officials of the road in Los Angeles Angel-es here today. The proposed plan provides for the erection of shop buildings and terminal ter-minal trackage that will cover several sev-eral square miles in the vicinity of the Los Angeles river where the present pres-ent terminal shops of the Salt Lake route are now located. The plan includes the removal of the huge shop buildings of the system sys-tem from Las Vegas, Nev., to thi city. Is According to the report, the railroad rail-road company plans to erect a terminal ter-minal that would be ample to care for the business of a city of a million people" and it is said, that, land sites have already been secured for further fur-ther devlopmnt, as the company men believe that the population of Los Angeles will surge past the 2,000.-000 2,000.-000 mark before many years. This development program of the Union Pacific also includes a coast line branch from Los Angeles to San ta Ana and San Diego. It is also proposed pro-posed to run a branch from Santa Ana to Newport Beach. It is also understood that the l-'ne plans a branch to Long Beach, which is believed to be a contemplative move in view of the plan to extend the Los Angeles harbor breakwater from San Pedro to that city.
