Show ' IW1 ROMINC PRODUCTION i Our country has pro-pen-d in the past ccn ury by giving the people as good government s? possible and 1. :-ting :-ting them manage their own industries indus-tries and business to th best of th native ability. When the great world war broke we were the rilhest, strongest in man power anil manufalturing ability of an ynation in the world, and we had accomplished this position by the above policy. Constant efforts are made to now change our system of handling th' affairs of this nation away from the lines and experience of a century, and to substitute European ideas of a more paternalistic policy. The proposition is made to have the government help the wheat growers grow-ers by buying and storing 200,000,-OOi) 200,000,-OOi) bushels of wheat and to that extent ex-tent easing over-production and decline de-cline of world markets. It looks very attractive and the govV'nmcnt might make a lot of money on the in'e-imiit, but the precedent could just as well be employed em-ployed to help silver, potatoes or any ether article of commerce. 1 i , When lumber, or oil, or coal pro-. duction passed the market demand, the same argument would hold good. Let. the government buy the surplus. P.y trying to help the farmer we would change our entire system. ! i Can we afford to jump from sound j American to European paternalism? j ' A i |
