Show Defense Day is a Big Success Here The attendance at the Defense Day exorcists last Friday, was far beyond the expectations of the committee in charge. The parade started promptly at 7:30, headed by the Milford Military band and under command of Lieut. L. R. Fournier, and marched down Main street to the VanWormer garage, gar-age, and counter marched back to the post office, wheres the exercise were held. A siring of colored lights had been hung across the street from the bank to the post office and a big spot light had been installed on top of tho post office. A large truck with a piauo had been I placed and decorated for a speakers ' platform. After singing "America," the chairman, chair-man, Lieut. Fournier introduced Kurl S. Carlton, the speaker of the evening. even-ing. Mr. Carlton dwelt largely on preparedness and urged a strict compliance com-pliance with the orders and instructions instruc-tions issued by the president. Mrs. L. W. Thurlow accompanied by Mrs. Vernon Johnson, sang "Columbia, "Col-umbia, the Gem of the Ocean," In a very pleasing manner. The next number was a flute solo by A. Harring. The "Star Spangled Banner," by the audience. lead by George Knud-sou, Knud-sou, was supposed to have ended the program, but the audience thought I there should be more, so the Lions rendered, "Good Night Ladies." with much force and melody. That ended one of tho best events of the year one that had the proper spirit and the proper cooperation of everyone in town. Milford should be proud of the event. |
