Show HIGH SCHOOL NOTES "The tally Isn't scored until the runner has reached the home base," said Principal Baird in an opportune talk in assembly, Monday morning. We have completed two- quarters of our school year. The last quarter Is the determining part of the course. We don't score on third base. Let us see if we can make the percentage of "scores" higher this year than they have ever bee n before. Wednesday morning at 11 our 1st oratorical contest was held. Two contestants con-testants entered Miss Louise Levi and Charles McCulley. Louise choose for her subject, "What is an American." Amer-ican." She delivered her message in her, usual charming manner. Charles Char-les selected, "Abraham Lincoln, the American," as the title of his oration and what he lacked in oral eloquence he made up in the splendid content of his talk. Mrs. Joseph Murdo-ck, Mr. Hubbell and Mr. Johnson, principal of the grade sc hools acted as judges. Charles Char-les was given first place and at commencement com-mencement lime he will be awarded a gold medal. We feel to congratulate the two students for entering this contest. This type of activity always boosts the standards of a school, and also affords opportunity for development along much needed lines. We feel to thank the commercial club for offering offer-ing this medal, not only for this year, but as a permanent incentive in our school. Wednesday afternoon the students enjoyed a matinee dance. The music was furnisred by our high school orchestra. or-chestra.
