Show UTAH HELPS MICHIGAN KEEP A PROMISE Thanks in part to Utah Alfalfa seed the state of Michigan now published publish-ed its milk and alfalfa campaign to such an extent that it now has over 500,000 acres of alfalfa and is beginning begin-ning to keep a promise made by President Pres-ident David M. Friday of the Agricultural Agricul-tural College. This promise is a statement made to the Farm Bureau that if they would adopt college methods me-thods the farmers of the state in five years would have their annual income increased by fifty millions of dollars.. By the alfalfa campaign 348,000 acres of alfalfa were cut this year in the state and as alfalfa averages a ton of hay more a acre than grass it is easy to calculate that the increase this year in hay production is worth two and a half millions, a good start on the fifty. The Michigan farmers bought three-fifths of their seed from Utah. They prefer Grimm seed, if they can get it, but Utah Common is their second' choice. The president of the Utah Agricultural College could easily make a similar promise to the farmers of Utah and back it up with such accomplishments of the Extension Exten-sion Service as hill selected potatoes, sparrow and rabbit eradication, certified cer-tified wheat, purebred sires and the saving of millinery and dress maker bills, to mention only a few of the nast and present blessings which do either accompany or flow from the Extension Service and the Experiment Experi-ment Station. |
