Show BEAVER COUNTY AGRICULTURE . Potatoes and Hogs This should be a good year to plant potatoes' after, af-ter, the discouraging season of last year. While seed potatoes are cheap, get some good seed Russetts. Raise some feeder hogs andi if potatoes are cheap next fall, market them through your hogs. Hogs can be sold anytime for cash, either as feeders or fat. Raise More Grain The farmers of Beaver county are better off when hay and grain are cheap in the country. coun-try. This is a livestock section and we should be able to prepare them for market at a profit. Our handicap is insufficient grain production for local consumption. This can he increased in-creased by building silos and grow ing corn. Corn can also be grown on much of our bench lands withbut irrigation, ir-rigation, and pastured' off with any kind of livestock. We can also increase in-crease our grain supply by fall plowing, plow-ing, so the crop can be planted earlier ear-lier in the spring, and made safe before be-fore all the spring high water is over. ov-er. Another way is to plant fall or winter wheat. Now is the best time to plow land for winter wheat in order or-der to retain enough moisture in the ground to sprout the grain when it la planted during next August or September. Sep-tember. We have one field of Improved Turkey Red Winter wheat growing now where farmers may get seed to plant this fall. Pasture Beef The cattle on pasture pas-ture for early beef are sure doing well. This is one means of harvesting harvest-ing hay crops without expense and making a profit. Dairying With three cream stations, sta-tions, a creamery and a cheese factory fac-tory competing for our milk, and cream, we should not complain about our market. If we feel that our profits pro-fits are not as large as they should be it may be that the fault is with us in the kind of care our cows get and the quality of the cows we milk. The old saying, "We cannot get blood out of a turnip," is also true of the scrub cow. We cannot expect to get a large flow of milk from a cow that has not the capacity even with good care. We are trying to organize a Dairy Bull association in order to improve our dairy cattle in the cheapest and most practical way. The thing for all dairymen to do is to take stock in such an association. From the way field roads are irrigated, irri-gated, one would think Beaver Valley Val-ley had too much, water.
