Show FUNERAL OF MRS. JEFFERSON' The lovely home was surrounded on the street with automobiles and on the lawn and porch stood large numbers of people waiting for admission ad-mission to view the last earthly remains re-mains of our noble and beloved citizen citi-zen and sister, Mrs. Rachel Jefferson. Jeffer-son. As one entered the door, an air of impressiveness at once was realized and as you were silently but lovingly loving-ly led to the chamber where she lay, one wondered if death was such a dreaded experience after all. When you entered her room, Instantly In-stantly the gorgeous beauty of the wonderful floral offerings, caused one. to inwardly exclaim "Just as beautiful and ferand as the life oT our dear one." Lying on a white satin couch, casket cas-ket with a filmy silken veil draped above over her form, dressed in robes rob-es white and shining, she looked more beautiful, more angelic, than ever she had appeared to human eyes before. Around, above and beneath be-neath her was wafted the odors of the beautiful flowers, presented by her scores and scores of friends that felt nothing was too lovely or too sacred to offer as a token of respect and adoration to this God Almighty's gentle woman. Rev. Zoqk's voice betrayed his efforts ef-forts to choke back the sobs of sorrow, sor-row, as he conducted the service, but it was done in a very impressive and masterly manner. The Bible selection selec-tion and the hymns were chosen by Mrs. Jefferson herself. At the grave the Eastern Star mem bers officiated. It was a heavenry sight to see those dear friends and sisters of the departed one, dressed all in white, surrounding her grave and dropping floral emblems as the coffin was lowered. Comforting and consoling were these last sad rites. The erection of a monument Is superfluous. Her memory will last for she has deserved it of and in her life. "TO' live in hearts we leave behind be-hind is not to die." But. "O, fear not in a world like this, and thou shalt know erelong know how sublime su-blime a thing it is to suffer and be strong." |
