Show TRIAL IS HELD IN POLICE COURT A trial was held In Milford yester-dny yester-dny in the Justice court, before a jury. The county attorney prosecuted prosecut-ed the case. The main facts as understood from the evidence are about as follows: The trespasser went upon the property of another in the evening before nine o'clock to get a drink, so he said, and the shades being up jhe looked into the window. For the purposes of this article, we will call the trespasser A, the ' owner of the property B and hla friend C, and these are really the only on-ly ones we will consider. B, a business man down town la notified that some one is on his lot looking in the windows. He rushes home taking C along with him. C goes to the back of the lot and B goes to the front. A, who is at the front of the house, sees B and runs around the corner into the dark. B catches up with him and hits hlim In the fact, knocking him down, and hits him two or three times more. C comes up and says: "Let me work him over," and catching A by the hair, proceeds to beat him up. C assists A to rise, by the hair of his head, and leads or drags him half a block, and asks him what his name is. A. dazed, says, "I don't know," C says, "You get out of town on- the first freight." and continuing to hold A by the hair, he takes him on toward to-ward the railroad. A is again asked, "Who are you, where do you live," A finally sayc, "Two or three blocks away, and tells his name. C is so astonished that he drops him and sneaks off, because A is one of his neighbor's boys, 17 year3 old a boy he bad known for years. Yet he was so badly beaten up that he hadl not recognized him. During all this disturbance, quite a number of people had gathered, and while most of them knew the boy and his father, none of them rec-pe-ni"pd tbp boy or offered to take :hm home nfter they learned who-he who-he was. B. and! C were not represented by an attorney, but conducted their own case. The charge unon which they were I tried was assault and hatterv. The I encp for the state was verv ablv handled hand-led by County Attorney Murdock. The verdict was B not guilty; C guilty. : C. received a sentence of $100 or 100 days in jail. i This case has been reported at some length in order that a lesson may be drawn, andl the future conduct, con-duct, not only of those involved, may be regulated, but that we may all understand a few princinles which seem to have been lost sight of. j A man has a right to protect his A man has no right to beat up anyone any-one unless protecting his own home, bis own property or person. A man is a coward who will beat up another when he is down. On the other hand, a man or a boy has no right to enter the premises prem-ises of another without making his business known. The property rights of others must be respected, and parents must teach their children to respect the rights of others. Homeo-,-r""-s should' pull down the shades of they don't want people to look in on them. The?e are among the points which were brought out at the trial. And they are well worth considering. a |
