Show WORTH CONSIDERING All political parties, an so far aa I know all Americans, believe in excluding ex-cluding Chinese and Japanese laborers. labor-ers. The reason is purely selfish. These orientals are willing to work at wages which Americans will not accept and to live as Americans do not live. The Republican party not only excludes ex-cludes these laborers but it levies protective-tariff duties upon the products pro-ducts of their labor. TO' be a little more specific, it requires the importer impor-ter from China and Japan of cheap-made cheap-made goods to pay into our Treasury Treas-ury so large a share of what they receive re-ceive for them as to prevent their importation. This is done for the sole purpose of giving the American laborer an advantage over these oriental ori-ental laborers within the American market. The Democratic party excludes these oriental laborers and then places pla-ces tariff duties upon the product of their labor so low as to invite their importation, so as to collect tariff revenue thereon. Democratic tariffs being "for revenue only" are so designed de-signed as to insure the importation of the various articles mentioned in their schedules. Do you see any advantage in compelling com-pelling Chinese and Japanese laborers labor-ers to remain and work in their own countries, consume the food from their own farms, and then permitting permit-ting them to send the products of their labor into our markets over letting the laborers themselves come and feed upon our farms while they produce the same things in direct competition with our high-priced labor? la-bor? Would you not just as soon have these oriental laborers compete com-pete with you on your own soil as to have the product of their labor compete with the product of your labor la-bor in your own market? -One pol'-tical pol'-tical party excludes both the cheap laborer and the products of cheap labor. The other party excludes the cheap laborer and invites the products pro-ducts of cheap labor. Every intelligent intelli-gent American citizen owes it to himself to determine which policy is preferable and to vote his convictions. convic-tions. It is my purpose in these letters let-ters simply to assist those who desire de-sire to know just what the two great parties profess to believe, what they promise to do, and what they actually actual-ly do do when in power. |
