Show rx COLD The Beaver County orange crop was slightly injured by the recent cold spell. Last Saturday it commenced to snow, not hard but just a little, kept it up all day Sunday, not big flakes but a few little fine ones. All day Monday, Mon-day, even Monday evening, when the stars were shirnng brirrht, the air 'was full of snow and particles- of ice. Tuesday Tues-day nieht it was ooM. Wednesday 'New Years, morning the thermometers thermome-ters about town registered all the wav from 20 to 26 below zero. There was considerable smudging done, by the chimp'...- ahut town, but the oronges, in exnosed places, were ruined. Thursdav morning it was much warmer, only 20 to 24 below zero. and it was thought the danger IS' the lemon crop was past. It is a well He known fact that the orange crop of Florida and California will stand with the rr-erurv at ;b for a short time V without injury, but 20 and 24 is a little more than the fruit can stand. The citrus growers of Beaver Co. have agreed not to pick or market any fr-n't this season. |
