Show GREAT INTEREST INDEBATING An unprecedented enthusiasm for debating has been witnessed this week, especially in the junior high school classes, the occasion being the tryouts for students to represent their respective classes in the contest con-test for championship of the Junior High School. Tuesday at 3:15 nearly halt the students of the eighth grade met in' a decidedly close contest to get places on the team. After careful consultation the judges selected Daulton Hicks and Norma Gleeson for principals and Merle Ernst as alternate. al-ternate. Wednesday afternoon brought to light some splendid material ma-terial for debating in the seventh grade. Places were given to Nell Ferguson and Laurel Burns, with Clyde Heron as alternate. The ninth grade did not live up to expectations since only two students appeared at the contest out of seven who had pledged themselves to enter. en-ter. Fred Cottrell and Lloyd Cox were declared the ninth grade representatives. rep-resentatives. Miss Street, Mr. Wells, and Mr. Bates acted as judges for -,e contests. The Board of Control decided last Tuesday to provide an appropriate championship pennant for the class winning the inter-class debate. |
