Show NO LONGER PIVOTAL j Ohio will take the lead over Virginia Vir-ginia as the "mother of prodidents" when the successor of President Wil son is inaugurated on March 4 next. The Old Dominion gave us Washington, Wash-ington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe and Tyler, and the Buckeye state presented ub with William Hen-Harrisonl Hen-Harrisonl tHaycf., Oat-field, McKin-ley McKin-ley and Taft. Five presidents for each state. As Ohio men head both the great party tickets this year, the tie will be broken and Virginia left in the rear. Ohio is good fighting fight-ing ground. Senator Harding received re-ceived a tremendous majority six years ago, but Wilson carried it in 1916, and Cox has won several notable not-able political victories 011 the D ocratic ticket in recent years. It used to be one of the pivotal states, but Is not so regarded nowadays by a large number of politicians. Governor Gov-ernor Cox might carry it this year and still meet with disastrous defeat. de-feat. On the other hand Senator Harding might meet with reverse in his home state and still be triumphantly trium-phantly elected. There is little chance that Ohio will settle the contest, con-test, but It is certain to secure the title of "mother of presidents." . |
