Show EXPENSIVE ECONOMY John Chambers, Comptroller of the State of California, in comparing the cost of government in that state with twenty years ago, argues that at that time a great cry went up for "economy", "efficiency" and the "H. C. L., which resulted a few years later in turning the rascals out, and note with what satisfactory results to the tax payer. In 1900 the total dispursements of the state government gov-ernment of that state amounted to $9,229,321.55. In the year ending June 30, 1919, the total disbursements had ris en to $50,681,433.48, and for the first half of the present fiscal year the disbursements were $31,505,514.92. If twenty years ago, the "rascals" were in power, what are we to call those in power now? |
