Show Safety Fir,st CITY MARSHAL GETS SPEEDERS Careless Motorists Must Pay for Their "Fun" The practice of careless driv- ing of automobiles on the streets of Milford must stop. The warning has been given to individuals who have been guil- ty in the past of such danger- ous practice. Now they must quit, pay a fine or go to jail and maybe all three. Marshal 9 Charley Baxter rounded up two last week who paid fines and they were warned that a second offense would mean more se- vera punishment by Judge Her- bert Nichols. Monday morning, a young man was before the Judge for cutting some capers with a machine which are hair-raisers but which should be done on an exhibition ground instead of upon the public thoroughfare. The young" man is a good mechanic and an expert driver, but his stunts with a machine on Main street are not appreciated by pedestrians or by the city officials. It is said thai he can turn a jitney on a dime and back again without running over the rim, but he kicks up a dust and makes a noise like a general attack of the artillery. The city board of trustees have passed the necessary ordinance and, indeed, the State law also covers the matter of careless driving. The serious seri-ous injury or death of any person, especially of some little child by careless driving would always be a most regrettable occurrence to linger lin-ger in the memory. "Safety first" should be the watchword of the motor mo-tor driver above all others. |
