Show iOFFICER AND VAG ' EXCHANGE SHOTS Tuesday night at about 11.20 p. 1 m. while attempting to place three vagrants in the city jail, Deputy . Sheriff and Special Agent Allen j Hedges for the Salt Lake Route was shot by one of the three arrested vagrants, va-grants, the buflet fired from a 38-caliber 38-caliber Colts revolver by the as-sasin, as-sasin, struck the top of the index finger of the left hand, passing into hand and out at the wrist. Deputy Sheriff drew his gun as soon as possible pos-sible and fired five shots at the murderer, mur-derer, one of the five shots striking strik-ing the murderer in the left side of the neck passing through and out at the mouth, causing a triple fracture frac-ture of the jaw bone. The shooting attracted a large number of people who ran toward the city jail and rendered such assistance as-sistance as they could. Company Surgeon Dr. Hunter treated Deputy Hedges and Surgeon Dr. Swanson treated the vagrant. There was a bottle of wood alcohol alco-hol labeled Nephi Drug Co. found on the vagrants person and it is said that he was under the influence of drink. While he was eating at the Salt Lake lunch room just before he arrival of train No. 1. he informed inform-ed one of the waitresses that he was a cook. From the story gathered, there vere three vagrants who rode into Milford on the blind baggage car train No. 3. They were ejected rrom the train by ' Special Agent Hedges. When train No. 1 arrived in Milford, the same three vagrants attempted to ride the blind baggage car out. Hedges ordered them off and placed them under arrest, taking tak-ing the three to the- city jail. While in the act of placing them in the jail one of the men pulled his gun and fired point blank at Hedges, striking strik-ing him as above stated. The following is a description of the vagrant who was shot. Age about 35, weight about 17'5, light complectioned, smooth shaven, . had nothing on his person to identify him. and he declined to tell his 'se. He looks like a man "who had been doing inside work. His enrls were white and soft. Also looked to be a man who had disipat-d disipat-d a great deal. Pnnntv Hede-es was sent into Salt r v-.. for hnsnital treatment on train No. 2 Wednesday morning. The vagrant who was shot will no doubt be a county case. Sheriff Fotheringham took the prisoner to Salt Lake. |
