Show INFLUENZA A recurrence of Influenza is noted not-ed in various parts of the State and throughout the United States where the disease had entirely or practically practi-cally disappeared. There has-been ample confirmation of the prediction predic-tion heretofore maxle that the disease dis-ease would continue to prevail thro-out thro-out the winter and its temporary disappearance dis-appearance would give no assurance assur-ance of permanent control. The history his-tory of epidemics of the past almost invariably shows a more extensive prevalence during the second year than the first and usually the activity acti-vity has ceased only after a period of three years. It is, therefore, the duty of all citizens to consider the problem with .these facts in view and to contribute their full support to measures best calculated to keep the disease constantly within bounds. Of such measures the one most effective ef-fective and essential so far as has heen proved is the isolation of the person having the disease until he is no longer liable to communicate ;t to others. . Influenza is extremely contagious and is spread by personal contact. V community will be spared and lives liv-es will he saved in direct proportion to the pains taken to prevent such contact. At the beginning virulent stage of an epidemic, it is necessary neces-sary to restrict contact by general closing orders, but this cannot be ontinued indefinitely. It is not practical nor wise to depend for a prolonged period on the susuen-sion susuen-sion of the normal activities of a community for the protection of the well members from those who have enptntrfous disease. Sooner or later . if must he recognized that the only logical and permanently effective ! course is to restrict the Individual who endangers the community. ! A person who knowingly goes abroad while affected with influenza is guilty of a criminal act and should he treated aqcordinglyj. The law provides ample means for punishing punish-ing such law-breakers, and it is the duty of every person not only to comply with the law, hut to demand that others shall do likewise, re-all re-all cases of infraction that may come to his attention. The local authorities should vigilantly enforce the law and they must receive the support of an active public sentiment. senti-ment. A |
