The editor and Mrs. Carlton, beam-: beam-: ing with a holiday spirit, had arrang- ed a banquet, the counterpart of which has not yet been set beneath the : glowing lights of this city. It was i luxuriously spread at the fine dis-! dis-! cretion of Mrs. Atkin, whose cheerful and attentive presence added that fl-I fl-I nal touch, which makes satisfaction j complete. ; Roses, tulips and oleander were attractively at-tractively set. and gave the function ; an added touch of beauty. Interwov- en with these soft, natural colors were those of Old Glory, and a service ser-vice flag which was the gift of Mrs. Atkin to Mrs. Carlton, whose still on French soil, an instruct-the instruct-the officers training school at Lan-grees. All were , especially picked for the occasion ! and reflected credit on the host whose j unique innovation'was a surprise. J During the courses, the guests ! were entertained by music played under un-der the direction of Master Walter Carlton, whose reportoire included both classic and popular melodies. Merriment prevailed throughout the feast, and all were reluctant to. leave so delightful a scene, the memory of which shall gleam more brightly down the years.
