Show MEXICAN IS MURDERED BY COMPATRIOT Dispute Suddenly Ended by Crack of Revolver Section Hands' Squabble Ends Fatally Fa-tally for One; Slayer JLikes Escape Good A few words, a pistol shot and a job for the undertaker. This sums up the brief but tragic story of a shooting which took place about 1:25 a. m. yesterday, in one of the section houses occupied by the Mexicans, Mexi-cans, near the roundhouse. Details are hard to obtain, as the Mexicans who know anything, "No Sabe," when questioned. It appears from what meagre information can be gathered, that a number of Mexicans Mexi-cans were grouped in one of the section sec-tion houses, where they herd like cattle, and shortly after one o'clock some sort of a dispute arose among them. It seems the victim of the affray, af-fray, Sanbago Finis, was standing in the group, when ugly names were exchanged between himself and his slayer, whose name at this writing has not been learned. Instantly there was a flash of a gun and Finis fell, . shot between the eyes, dying almost instantly. , What followed is only conjecture, as none of the Mexicans who witnessed witness-ed the tragedy have been of any use as witnesses, so far, but the murderer murder-er escaped and an alarm was at once raised. Officers Baxter and Cleveland Cleve-land at once took the trail south and covered the country towards Lund and the mountains. A posse composed of Ed Denny, Roy Baxter, Paul Comisky and Black did some scouting around, also, and later in the day Sheriff Cutler came over from Beaver and joined in the hunt. About 1:30 Marshal Baxter and Special Officer Cleveland returned return-ed to Milford, after having gone ten or twelve miles south, in fact, as far as the Dinwiddie ranch, but no one had seen the fugitive. Tracks could be followed south for a short distance, dis-tance, then they became confused and finally lost, altogether. Sheriff Cutler also returned to Milford soon after dinner and plans were made for a continuation of the search for the fugitive. At the time of going to press the murderer had not been apprehended. The dead man was buried yesterday. yester-day. Apparently he had no relatives nearer than Old Mexico, and his local compatriots declined to furnish funeral fun-eral expenses. |
