Show PLENTY OF WATER AND GOOD ROADS Representative D. A. Baxter, who so creditably served this county in the recent session of the legislature, reuurned home last week, entirely satisfied with the outcome of his pet measures and ideas. ' Two things in particular oc- cupied his attention things which are of vital interest to his consti- i tuents roads and water. He was successful in having $20,000 set aside for the purchase of well drilling drill-ing machinery for the benefit of the hither too dry rancher. This money will be invested by the state in the latest and best well-drilling machinery and the U. S. Govern, ment will furnish an expert to assist as-sist and oversee its use and the rancher ran-cher will only have to furnish the common labor and the casing If he wants a well put down. This will insure the sinking of a number of wells in this valley and will thoroughly thor-oughly test out the underground waters here. Several Milford men have expressed expres-sed themselves as ready to begin operations op-erations as soon as the outfit can be purchased and delivered on the ground. On the subject of roads, Mr. Baxter Bax-ter says the Legislature provided a $4000,000 bond Issue and that with the Federal Aid money and the remainder of the bond money stW on hand from the last Issue, will give the nice little sum of $8,500,-000 $8,500,-000 available for use on the roads of Utah. There are but two roads considered consid-ered in Beaver county by the State and Federal authorities or It might more properly be said three roads. ! First the Arrowhead Trail, which reaches from the Millard cot! line to the Iron county line. The Junction Beaver-Mlford Newhouse road, reaching from the Piute county coun-ty line to the Nevada state line on the Ely road. This road includes the Puffer Lake road. Mr. Baxter says that the entire efforts of the county at the present time should be centered on these 2 roads, as they are in reality the roafls most needed for the development develop-ment of the county and that there is a, splendid chance of their being built. He says that there will be a good concrete road built from the Idaho line to as far south as CIpIo. and that when that is completed, traffic to the Pacific coast will have a better route to San Francisco and points north in California, than the route now traveled and the distance will only be fifty miles farther and the big bugaboo of the great Alkali desert just west of Salt Lake would be eliminated while traffic to Southern South-ern California would also be beni-fited beni-fited by the use of the Improved Arrowhead Ar-rowhead Trail. Also Northern California Cali-fornia travelers could come In via Ely and take the run down to Little Zion, St. George and the Grand Canyon, with but little effort, where as if they took the road direct west from Salt Lake, they would be more apt to cut the canyon trip out. Ta-k-en as a whole, Mr. Baxter feels that tte good road question Is on the highroad to success and he knows that the road to success In Beaver county Is water and good roads. |
