Show One Plea Guilty, Two Dismissals In Liquor Cases Three charges of illegal sale of liquor preferred against four Mil-ford Mil-ford people on evidence allegedly secured by Ben Harries and Shirley Shir-ley Burton, sleuths for the state liquor control commission last August, came to little today when the cases finally came up before Justice of the Peace Herbert Nichols. Kay Suyefusa, popular Japanese restaurateur, pleaded guilty and took a suspended sentence, sent-ence, while a joint case against H. T. Hanks and Ralph Russey and an individual ease again-t Dan Davis, were dismissed on account ac-count of insufficient evidence on motion of Theodore Bohn of Beaver, Bea-ver, county attorney. Attorneys Sam and Harold Cline of Miiford represented all of the defendants while Attorney Frank Copening of Salt Lake, member of counsel coun-sel for the state liquor control commission, was associated with Mr. Bohn in the prosecution of the charges. Harries, one-time reform sheriff sher-iff of Salt Lake county, was operating op-erating under the name of "Ben Rees" and Burton as "S. S. Burton" Bur-ton" when they made their visit to Miiford early in August and they purported to be -interested in alfalfa al-falfa seed ground in this vicinity. They were around here for two or three days and out of the hospitable hospit-able treatment they were accorded while in town grew the charges against the Miiford men. The complaints were originally filed in the Beaver precinct court but were transferred to Miiford on application applica-tion for a change of venue. With the town office nowhere near adequate to accomodate the crowd the Firemen's hall was utilized uti-lized as the only other place available. |
